Dear Kuya

There are those radio stations which are giving advices to their callers and senders based on their own opinions only. But there is one program I know that the hosts are solving people’s common problem in life, love, etc., not from their own opinion, but from the explanation coming from the bible. That program is known as “Dear Kuya”.

Dear Kuya is a program airing daily in Radio La Verdad 1350 which is hosted by Kuya Daniel Razon. It was launched last January 14. People do enjoy listening to this segment for they can get wisdom through the advices given by the sensible preacher in our time, Bro. Eliseo Soriano. It is so nice to hear advices from Bro. Eli because when you apply it to yourself, it will surely bring you in a good way.

There is also a segment which the letter sent to them is being dramatized. I so much like this because some of the voice talents are my school mates. If I’m not mistaken, they’re all 3rd year students. I also wish to become part of the radio drama even in a day. I just wanted to have an experience conducting a live radio drama with Kuya. How fortunate am I when that day comes.
Thanks be to God! We’re still waiting for the FM station….

NSTP Outreach Program

Mass Communication 12

As an organization conducts charity works and other public services, they must need to consider some things for their event to become successful. Firstly, they must need to know their purpose why they’re doing such things.

As what I have learned, you will not appreciate things if you will not give your best and if you don’t know the reason why you’re doing that.

Last February 20, 2013 (Wednesday), the MCT-12 of La Verdad Christian College, Caloocan had conducted an outreach program in “Reception and Study Center for Children” (RSCC) DSWD, NCR. We went there not just because of the grades or even an experience, but also, to know if we can manage small events like that.

Wishing to become a Children again.
I was so overwhelmed that time because I saw abandoned children smiling during the games and their performance. Obviously, we, the organizers, had enjoyed the event even though the children were quite naughty. =)

Why am I here in LVCC?

Most of the high school students want to continue their life after their graduation, by studying in college. We all know, based on our experiences that as early as first year high school, we had started planning for what would be our life after four years. But we accept the fact that not all of us can afford the tuition fees in different universities, unless we apply for their scholarship program.

De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, UP Diliman and University of the east: these are some schools which I planned to take entrance exam. Even though my mom was giving me money for the payment of the exam, I still did not accept it. I always say to her before that instead of paying for those, let’s spend that money for the foods and things we needed. Then, the time came; I had decided to take the exam in La Verdad Christian College last Feb, 2012. I really wanted to study in LVCC every since. This was also the reason why I was so confident not to take the exam in other universities.

Aside from not having tuition fee to pay for, LVCC also offers uniform and lunch for free. The college program that I wanted to take was also offered here.

I feel sad for those who just gave up for the reason that they can’t take the pressure anymore. But then, I’m still holding on the fact that God has the reason why those things happened.

I feel happy for having true friends which I met in LVCC, supportive parents, very good instructors and cheerful classmates. They’re helping me improve myself better.

CL WEEK

Let's enjoy every moments! =)

I was so happy the time when we had our class meeting and I asked my classmates of who would like to join the chorale, and most of them raised their hands. The same feeling when Micah and Patrick asked them (For Christian Dance).

La Verdad Christian College celebrates “Christian Living Week” every month of January. The CL Week organizers conducted the activities last:

Monday (January 28, 2013)

– Opening program for the CL Week. The joyous students had prepared their cheering per section. They enjoyed it even if they’d just planned their entries in a short period of time.

Tuesday (January 29, 2013)
Poster Making Contest and Photo Contest. The entries in our section (MCT-12) are:
            -Heidi

            -Ronalyn

            -Jakamaru

The entries were all nice! I can’t find Ronalyn and Heidi’s photos, so I’d just put kuya Jack’s picture. Fortunately, Jack’s entry belongs to the top 3. He got the 1st place! We’re proud of him. Thanks be to God!

The winner was: JuliusParanal from MCT-11 ;)

At the same time, during the Poster Making and Photo contest conducted in the School Auditorium, the MCT12 was rehearsed by Kuya Ruzzel (Choreographer for Christian Dance) in room 205. He had finalized the steps and gave some advices for us to perform the dance nicely. However, when you look at the picture, Mamskie (Ate Jen) was busy reviewing for the Bible Quiz Bee. She just enjoyed watching us even though she was quite pressured.

Wednesday (January 30, 2013) – Rest day? Obviously not! Mass Communication 12 went to Quezon Memorial Circle. We had finalized the steps for the Christian Dance and blending for chorale. I thank God for giving us an opportunity to know each other better. We learned a lot and at the same time, we had fun! One thing was remained in our mind, as long as there is a faith in us, we can do it with God’s mercy, help and guidance.

Thurs, Jan 31 - Bible Competitions
It was scheduled for Bible Quiz Bee, Bible Preaching, Solo Singing, Chorale and Christian Dance. It was so nice that most of the non member of the church participated in the said event. Even though they don’t have much time to prepare, they still gave their best to serve God even in a smallest way.

BIBLE PREACHING:

Chriszle is the one who represented oour section in this category. She did her best with the help of God in delivering the topic given to her. She captured our attention: the way she speaks, her good posture and her aura.
We all thought that she would be one of the top 3 best student preachers, but then we don’t know why she was not included. Even so, we’re still proud of her! ..The winner was: Pricilla Santos of MCT-21

BIBLE QUIZ BEE

Sharmaine Jimenez and Jenelyn Rombaon were the representatives of MCT-12 for Bible Quiz Bee. They didn’t win because of their answer, “tahanan ng Dios” while the correct answer was, “bahay ng Dios. Unfortunately, the organizers didn’t considered their answer. The tie breaker questions are so easy! Even those who were not taken the review can answer those questions.
The winner was: Representatives from MCT-13 and HCS-11

SOLO SINGING

I was the one who had represented our section in solo singing. I failed their expectations, because the song that I’ve chosen was not that well fitted to my voice. I really wanted to sing “Puso Kong Nabuksan” but it was sang by Jermaine, so I just I sing “In This Journey”. I admit that I really can’t sing well that time for I was sick but then, I still did my best for the glory of God.
The winner was: RholandSantos from MCT-13

CHORALE:

This is my favorite part.
Actually, I was the one who had chosen the song for our piece in chorale competition. At first, I doubted that they couldn’t get the strategies and the basics of a choir member. But then, I just trust God that He will help us no matter what.

Pasasalamatan Extended Version was the song that I have chosen. There was a time when I feel like giving up, because most of them cannot get what I was trying to teach them. But then, I just realized that I still need to consider some things: maybe they were just hungry, tired, pressured, stressed, etc.
We had invited the conductor of North District Choir to help us in cleaning some part of the song; most importantly, the blending.

Surprisingly, our performance in the actual presentation was very far from the things happened during our rehearsal. We all looked happy, and obviously enjoyed the performance.
Thanks be to God because even though we have the simplest performance among the contestants, we still won the place “Champion”.
The winner was: MCT-12

CHRISTIAN DANCE:

There was a problem between the students and the organizers that time. It’s because the organizers had published the guidelines in every categories LATE. That was the reason why we don’t know what to follow. That’s why we just asked Bro. Jensen about our plan, which is to go after with our chosen song. Fortunately, he accepted our proposal.

We spent most of our time in working out the steps that was taught to us by kuya Ruzzell. Patrick had chosen the song “Asop Prod. 2005” for us to interpret.

We had encountered a problem during the performance day. The music stopped in the middle of our performance. It was so nice to see that even the music had been cut-off, we were still in projection and we didn’t panic.
Actually, we don’t expect that our group will be declared as a winner because of what happened, but we were so thankful that we won the Champion.

The winner was: MCT-12

Fri, Feb 1 -Gayak

Before the program proper of the ASOP, there was an event happened, entitled “Our Modest Apparel”/ Gayak Fashion Show. It is an event which the students walk around the stage getting up with the standard clothing which a Christian must wear.

ASOP

Most of the people spend their time in writing love songs, songs for their family and friends, etc. Some says that inspiration helps them improve their compositions.

ASOP La Verdad is the final event happened during the CL Week. Students made their own musical composition. It’s so nice to know that they have the ability to write songs of praises even in a short period of time.

The preparation was so rushed. There was also a prediction that the schedule of the LVCC ASOP will be moved in other day, but it didn’t happen. Even though the staffs were all pressured that time, I can say that they all did their job well!

Thanks be to God for the event was a successful one. Me, myself also joined the contest. I interpreted the song composed by Angela Josef Hernandez entitled “You”. I did not expect that I ould sing that song well for my voice was not in a good condition. But then, I still thank God because he guided me all throughout the song.

Rholand Santos was declared a winner.

Movie Review-UP

Sometimes, cartoons are not just about making fun with the kids, but instead, it also teaches a lot of things. They’d just made it in other way or in a creative manner for them to become more interesting to watch.

I just watched SpongeBob square pants in Nickelodeon before making this review. I just then realized that sponge Bob and Patrick are best friends in its true meaning. Why? Even though most of the time, they’re having a quarrel, in the end, they will end up with solving the problems they had encountered.

Now, let us go to the 2009 American 3D computer-animated comedy-adventure film “UP”.  The film was directed by Pete Docter and was produced by Pixar Animation Studios. It was co-directed by Bob Peterson with music composed by Michael Giacchino.
“Up was released on May 29, 2009 and opened the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first animated and 3D film to do so. The film became a great financial success, accumulating over $731 million in its theatrical release. Up received critical acclaim, with most reviewers commending the humor and heart of the film. Edward Asner was praised for his portrayal of Carl, and a montage of Carl and his wife Ellie aging together was widely lauded. The film received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, making it the second animated film in history to receive such a nomination, followingBeauty and the Beast (1991).”-Wikipedia

Just to share, I find it more interesting to watch this movie when I saw the trailer. Russell, the little fat boy is look like my younger brother. And also, because of the curiosity, on how the old man got closed by the annoying kid.

"The movie centers on an elderly 78 year-old widower named Carl Fredricksen which was voiced by Edward Asner and an earnest young Wilderness Explorer named Russell which was voiced by Jordan Nagai.
Carl Fredricksen is the husband of Ellie. When Carl was just 8 years old, he was a child who is very shy and quiet. He met a young girl named Ellie and they had a same interest in the famed explorer named Charles F. Muntz."
Just as Carl and Ellie (who are both now old people) finally seem to be able to take their trip, Ellie got sick and died of old age, leaving Carl living by himself, becoming bitter and cranky and missing his wife terribly. Through Russell, Dug and Kevin, his life became nicer and they helped him fulfilled his and his wife's dream.
For me, it is sweet and touching to hear stories about lovers which are about staying their relationship stronger until the end of their lives. That time when they had met at their early age and remain their love fresh even if there’s a lot of difficulties that they had faced. I feel so happy whenever I am riding in a jeepney and encountering old couples which sweetness is like teenage couples. I admit that my tears fell down while watching the scene where Carl was reminiscing about his life with Ellie.

I like the part when the house flies away, then Carl was shocked when there’s someone knocks the door along the ride. When he had opened the door, he saw Russell. At first, he doesn't want him to go inside his house but the second time he opened the door, Russell run through his house.

"Russell is an overweight, 8-year old Wilderness Explorer. He was missing the "Assisting the Elderly" Wilderness Patch, the last one to put him in the rank of Senior Wilderness Explorer."

He makes friends with animals. The first one is the exotic bird which he names Kevin. This bird likes to eat chocolates. Russell then realized that Kevin is a girl when this bird was searching for her eggs. The next one is “Dug,” a dog who can literally speak his mind, using a collar owned by his old master, Charles F. Muntz.

At the end of the film, Russell gets his "Assisting the Elderly" Wilderness merit badge, presented by Carl. Then, he and Carl go and have some ice cream, just like he and his dad used to do. Muntz's airship, the Spirit of Adventure, is hovering above both of them, and it seems that they have kept Dug, since he appeared at the Wilderness Explorer ceremony with Russell's mother.”

better love watching cartoons than action movies. I'm enjoying watching this film even though I had watched it a lot of times.
